What the numbers don't tell you
August is warm and busy, with afternoons around 26 °C, the Caribbean Carnival's Grand Parade on the Civic Holiday weekend at the start of the month drawing a million people to the Lakeshore and the CNE fair running from mid-month to Labour Day with rides, air show and deep-fried everything. Summer storms are frequent but short, on about nine days. Many locals head to cottage country, so neighbourhood restaurants are easier.
The Taste of the Danforth festival fills Greektown for a weekend. The CNE air show over the lake runs on Labour Day weekend. Hotel rates stay at peak until the holidays end. Daylight shrinks from fifteen hours to thirteen and a half. For the Film Festival, warm days and cooler nights, see September.
