What the numbers don't tell you

August is the hottest month, with afternoons around 41 °C, monsoon humidity and occasional thunderstorms that can flood the Strip and the underpasses for an hour. It is the quietest and cheapest month for weekday stays. Pool clubs run daily, and the resorts compete on summer packages. Reserve outdoor plans, including the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, for early morning.

Nights rarely drop below 28 °C. Dust storms occasionally reduce visibility for an hour. The Las Vegas Raiders' pre-season games begin, and the sportsbooks fill for the start of the NFL season at the end of the month. Rates jump for Labor Day weekend at the start of September. For the return of pleasant evenings and the football weekends, see September.
