When to go, in short
Cancún is hot all year, and the real seasons are dry and wet. The dry season from December to April is peak, with sunny days, low humidity and the highest rates, and spring break in March fills the Hotel Zone with college crowds. May to October is hot, humid and rainy, overlapping with hurricane season from 1 June to 30 November and the sargassum seaweed season that can cover the east-facing beaches from April to August. September and October are the cheapest months for a reason.
November is the sweet spot, with the rains ending, the seaweed gone and prices still below the winter peak. The sea is warm all year, from 26 °C in winter to 30 °C in summer. The Hotel Zone is a 22-kilometre strip served by frequent buses; downtown Cancún and the ferry to Isla Mujeres are the local alternatives. Chichén Itzá and Tulum are two to three hours by road and best at opening time. For dry weather at the lowest peak-season price, take the first half of December or November outside Thanksgiving.
