March is spring-break month, with college crowds in the Hotel Zone from early March to mid-April, loud nightlife and full resorts, and afternoons around 30 °C. Weather is excellent, with rain on about thirteen days. The equinox at Chichén Itzá around 21 March draws thousands to watch the serpent shadow descend the pyramid. Quieter areas like Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos and Holbox stay calm.
