Best time to visit Las Vegas

Las Vegas is indoors and air-conditioned by design, so weather matters less than conventions, fights and holiday weekends, which set room rates more than any season. Spring and autumn are the pleasant months, with warm days, cool nights and pool season from roughly April to October. Summer is extremely hot, above 40 °C in July and August, which is when midweek rates are cheapest. Winter is cool and dry, fine for walking the Strip, with CES in January and the Christmas lull the two extremes of pricing.

Always check the convention calendar before booking: a 150,000-delegate show can triple rates across the city for a week. Resort fees of 40 to 60 dollars a night are added to every booking, and parking at Strip resorts is charged. The Strip is longer than it looks, about 7 km end to end, so plan walking in the cooler hours. For pool weather without summer heat or convention surcharges, take late April or the first half of October.
