What the numbers don't tell you
February is cool, bright and good value, with afternoons around 16 °C, Carnival parades on the weekend before Lent with the big processions in Torres Vedras and Sesimbra nearby, and almond blossom in the countryside. Rain comes in spells, on about nine days, but sunny days are frequent. It is the ideal month for the museums and for day trips to Sintra, which is empty compared with summer. Carnival Tuesday is a widely observed holiday.
