October is the second inter-monsoon, warm and humid with afternoon storms building on about 12 days, usually clearing by evening. Deepavali lights up Little India in late October or early November, with the Serangoon Road street light-up switched on about a month before the festival and bazaars selling sweets and garlands. Between festivals, prices dip and the big attractions are calmer than in the school holidays.
Afternoon highs average 31 °C. The Singapore Writers Festival and the Affordable Art Fair fall in late autumn. Sentosa and the Southern Islands are pleasant in the mornings before the storms build. The Children's Day holiday in early October is a school holiday only.
