October is mild and golden, with afternoons around 19 °C, the Biennale in its final weeks, the Marathon finishing on the Riva on a Sunday in late October and the first acqua alta episodes possible at the end of the month, now managed by the MOSE barrier. It is one of the best months for weather and value together. Mornings are misty and beautiful. Rain falls on about seven days. The clocks go back on the last Sunday.
The Festa del Mosto on Sant'Erasmo island celebrates the grape harvest in the first weekend. The day-tripper fee no longer applies. The Fenice opens its autumn season.
