What the numbers don't tell you
November is the acqua alta peak, with afternoons around 13 °C, the Salute festival on 21 November, when Venetians cross a votive bridge of boats to the basilica, and the Biennale closing. It is cold, often wet with rain on about eight days, and the quietest month, with hotel rates at their lowest. The MOSE barrier now prevents the worst floods, but minor high water still brings out the walkways.
