What the numbers don't tell you

July is the hottest month, with afternoons around 29 °C and heavy humidity, and the Redentore fireworks on the third Saturday, when thousands watch from boats in the Bacino and a pontoon bridge crosses the Giudecca canal to the church. The city is extremely crowded in the daytime. Evening walks in Cannaregio and Castello are the reward for enduring the afternoons. Rain falls on about six days.

The Lido beaches and the Alberoni dunes are the escape. The Fenice runs its summer season. The Biennale continues. Hotel rates are at the summer peak. Daylight lasts until after eight thirty. For the equally hot, crowded month with Ferragosto and the Film Festival opening, see August.
