08Editor's notes

What the numbers don't tell you

June is the busiest month in the hotel statistics, 1.59 million arrivals in 2019, twelve percent above the yearly average, and the most expensive: the average room reached €514 in June 2025 at 86 percent occupancy, the highest monthly figures CoStar has recorded for Paris. The reasons are stacked: the Roland-Garros finals on 5 and 6 June 2027, Nuit Blanche on a Saturday in early June (6 June in 2026, having moved from October), the Fête de la Musique on 21 June with free concerts in every square, and the menswear and couture shows at the end of the month.

Daylight peaks: the sun sets a few minutes before ten in the last week, and twilight lingers past half past ten. Afternoons average 24 °C, but June is when heat first arrives, with two or three days above 30 °C in an average year and a ten-year maximum of 35.8 °C. Older hotels and most apartments have no air conditioning; ask before booking. Rain still falls on about twelve days, usually as thunderstorms that clear quickly. The Seine quays and the Canal Saint-Martin are where the city spends its evenings. For the same weather at lower prices, September is the alternative.
