08Editor's notes

What the numbers don't tell you

February is cold, with afternoons around 3 °C, sometimes with snow or ice on the lakes, and Danish school holidays in the middle of the month, in week seven or eight, bring local families to the museums and the Blue Planet aquarium. Copenhagen Fashion Week opens the month with shows across the city. Tivoli opens for a short winter season of about two weeks around the school holiday.

Daylight grows quickly, from about nine hours to over ten and a half. Hotel rates stay at winter levels except during Fashion Week. Fastelavn, the Danish carnival on the Sunday before Lent, brings costumed children and the barrel-hitting tradition to the squares. The design museums and the Glyptotek are at their quietest. March is still cold but brighter; see March.
