08Editor's notes

What the numbers don't tell you

July is peak season, with Danish school holidays, the Jazz Festival in the first ten days bringing free concerts to squares and courtyards, and cruise ships in the harbour most mornings. Weather is at its warmest, with afternoons around 22 °C and the occasional day above 28 °C, and the harbour baths at Islands Brygge and Nordhavn are full. Hotels are expensive and should be booked early.

Rain falls on about nine days. The Roskilde Festival occupies the first week. Many Copenhageners leave for summer houses from mid-July, so the neighbourhood restaurants quieten while the centre stays busy. Daylight runs from about half past four in the morning to past nine at night. The Tivoli fireworks run on Saturday nights through the summer. August continues the peak with Pride and Fashion Week; see August.
